"Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: 'Hasten to do righteous deeds before a time of trials comes, like the parts of a dark night, when in the morning a person will be a believer but by evening becomes a disbeliever (kafir), or in the evening he is a believer but by morning becomes a disbeliever, one who sells his religion for worldly gains.' Muslim 118

It's astonishing how those who seemed like a 'rock' just yesterday have changed their stance today and sold Islam for a piece of this world.
